General Sir Harold Alexander, now commanding all Allied forces on the Italian mainland under the supreme leadership of General Eisenhower, between 1939 and 1946. General Alexander was Commander-in-Chief Middle East and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Allies' victorious armies in North Africa. He was the last British officer to leave Dunkirk.
