Mr Rhodes's Farm, South Africa. c1900? 'About twenty miles from Bulawayo Mr Rhodes owns a farm of some 72,000 acres, called Sauerdale. The homestead consists of a cluster of half a dozen circular huts, with clay walls, thatched roofs, and mud floors. They stand on the summit of a small kopje, in the midst of the most charming scenery, and almost within view of the spot where the owner held his famous Indaba with the rebels, which was the means of bringing the war to a termination'. British mining magnate and politician Cecil Rhodes (1853-1902) and his British South Africa Company founded the southern African territory of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe and Zambia), which the company named after him in 1895.
