Portrait of Dominik Tomasz Truskolaski, c1795. Actor, theatre owner and director. Wojniakowski presented the actor in traditional Polish dress. The model is turned three-quarters to the left, and shown from the waist up. The most captivating part of his distinctive, florid face with its long nose is his eyes, which gaze calmly and confidently directly at the viewer. His short, dark blonde hair reveals a high forehead. Truskolaski is wearing a white zupan [a long garment worn by Polish noblemen] under a dark blue kontusz [a long robe worn by Polish noblemen] with an amaranthine collar. The costume is embellished with a brooch and a costly pendant on a chain similar to a chatelaine, which was most often made of noble metals and decorated with precious stones. Worn by men and women alike, it was often used to carry small items for everyday use. Aleksandra Krypczyk-De Barra
