Warsaw on 8 April 1861, before 1866. Additional Info: In 1861, Warsaw saw a series of manifestations which were bloodily suppressed by the Russian army. The Namestnik of the Kingdom of Poland, General Karl Karlovich Count Lambert, declared martial law on 15 October 1861. On 8 April 1861, Russian troops opened fire on a defenceless crowd of people in Plac Zamkowy in Warsaw. One hundred people were killed and several hundred injured.
