Portrait of Ludomir Benedyktowicz, between 1875-1878. Benedyktowicz was a painter who worked despite losing both hands during his participation in the January Uprising. The portrait presents a man in his prime in the bust, facing slightly to the left. The head and sketchily treated torso of the model emerge from an abstractly developed background. The noble features of the face are highlighted by bright eyes with a thoughtful gaze, a prominent nose and slightly open mouth. His fluffy, wavy hair is combed back and is a perfect complement to his thick, dark blonde beard. The soft, chiaroscuro modelling corresponds with the somewhat monochromatic, warm colour tones, which are dominated by browns, beiges and olive greens. Aleksandra Krypczyk-De Barra
