The Chocim Treaty, 1796. The Treaty of Chocim depicts the truce between Poland and Turkey concluded in Chocim in 1621, ending the war that had been going on since 1620. In the painting, Stanislaw Lubomirski shakes hands with the Turkish Grand Vizier, Dylewar Pasha, in a symbolic gesture of agreement. Above them stands Prince Wladyslaw Vasa, the future king Wladyslaw IV, who after the death of the Lithuanian hetman, Jan Karol Chodkiewicz, commanded the battle with Lubomirski. The body of Chodkiewicz is visible laid under the tent. Next to them, the painter depicted Jakub Sobieski, the father of King Jan III, in a costume typical of the nobility of the time, a navy blue delia constituting a kind of outer garment and a cap on his head.
