Legionnaires Playing, Dec 1915 - Feb 1916. Many professional and amateur musicians served in the Legions. In their free time, the soldiers played for pleasure, for themselves and for their colleagues. Such a scene was drawn by Gottlieb in Legionowo, the winter 'capital' of the Polish Legions on the Volhynian front. The soldiers are in coats, which indicates that they do not play indoors, in the quarters, but outside. Gottlieb stayed in Legionowo from December 6, 1915 to the first days of January 1916, portraying officers of the Polish Legions Headquarters and various units subordinate to it. It was then that he probably immortalized the concerting soldiers.
