Soldier of the Polish Legions Digging Trenches, March-April 1916. This is one of the few genre scenes painted by Gottlieb at the front. It presents an ordinary soldier's activity during the winter-spring break in hostilities - work on the preparation of defensive positions. The watercolour was created in Volhynia, as evidenced by the stamp of the 2nd Brigade unit, in the spring of 1916, probably in March, when the artist was a guest at the positions of the 2nd Brigade located in the area of Bielgów.
