Belfry above the market hall (Cloth Hall) from the northwest from the Markt, Bruges, 1880-1890. The original wooden one from 1240 grew out of the building housing the market halls and the town hall, along with the archives and treasury, which were destroyed by fire in 1280. The reconstruction carried out before 1300 included four stories of the tower topped with a spire, flanked by four pinnacles. The expansion (1482-1486) led to the creation of the upper parts in an octagonal shape topped with an openwork "crown".
