Lord Justice Lindley, the new Judge of Appeal, 1881. Engraving from a photograph by Mr. Charles Watkins, '...taken about five years ago. The promotion of Mr. Justice Lindley to be one of the Lords Justices of Appeal in the High Court of Justice was announced several weeks ago. The Hon. Sir Nathaniel Lindley is eldest son of the late Dr. John Lindley, the eminent scientific botanist, Professor of Botany at University College, London. He was born at Acton, Middlesex, in 1828, and was educated at University College. In 1850, at Michaelmas Term, he was called to the Bar at the Middle Temple, and practised in the Equity Courts. In 1872 he was made one of the Queen's Counsel. He was appointed a Judge of the Common Pleas division of the High Court of Judicature in May, 1875, upon which occasion her Majesty conferred upon him the honour of knighthood. He is author of "An Introduction to the Study of Jurisprudence," and of a treatise on the "Law of Partnership and Companies".' From "Illustrated London News", 1881.
