General Sir George Pomeroy Colley, K.C.S.I., killed at Majuba Hill, Laing's Nek, on Sunday last, 1881. Colley (1835-1881) was a British Army officer who became Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Natal and High Commissioner for South Eastern Africa. He was killed in action on 27 February 1881 at the Battle of Majuba Hill, the final and decisive battle of the First Boer War that was a resounding victory for the Boers.
