Statue of Alvaro de Bazán, Madrid, Spain, 2008. Sculpture made in bronze by Mariano Benlliure (1862-1947) in 1891. Alvaro de Bazán, Marquis of Santa Cruz (1526-1588), was a Spanish admiral during the reign of King Philip II. He led the taking of Tunis, and at the Battle of Lepanto he commanded the reserve fleet.
