Galapagos Fountain, Retiro Park, Madrid, Spain, 1996. Galapagos or Isabel II Fountain, Glorieta de Nicaragua (Nicaragua Roundabout), inaugurated in 1832. Fountain designed by the architect Francisco Javier de Mariátegui (1755-1844), sculptures carved by the sculptor José Tomás (1790-1848) and the bronze artist Eugenio Alonso. It was commissioned by King Ferdinand VII to commemorate the first anniversary of the birth of the Princess of Asturias (future Queen Isabella II).
