British men, captured by troops of the Sultan, on board the Moroccan steamship "Al-Hassani", Morocco, 1898. Arrest of British members of the Globe Venture Syndicate. The British expedition, aided by disgruntled natives, occupied the port of Arksis, but were interrupted while disembarking supplies and ammunition by the Shereefian (ie Moroccan) steamer "Al-Hassani". The British opened fire from their steamer "Tourmaline" to prevent the capture of their boats, but one was captured before it could reach the "Tourmaline". Four Britons and one interpreter were taken prisoner. From "La Ilustración Española y Americana", 1898.
