Gaspar Melchor de Jovellanos is released from his imprisonment in Bellver Castle on April 6, 1808, (1851). Manuel Godoy ordered the arrest of de Jovellanos (1744-1811) on 13 March 1801, and his banishment to Majorca. First to the Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa, where he was under the care of the monks until 1802, and then to the military prison of Bellver Castle (1802-1808).
