Assault on Cadiz, 1797, (1851). Anglo-Spanish War (1796-1802): part of the military operation of the naval blockade of the port of Cádiz by the Royal Navy. Bombardment of the Spanish port of Cádiz by the British fleet commanded by John Jervis and Horatio Nelson (June 1797). Nelson was appointed to the command of the inshore squadron blockading the port. The Spanish naval forces commanded by José de Mazarredo and Federico Gravina successfully repelled the attacks and defeated the English fleet.
