Aerostation flight test with an aluminium airship, Tempelhof, near Berlin, November 3, 1897, (1898). The airship was designed and built by David Schwarz (1850-1897). It was 134 feet long and 46 feet high. The test did not give the expected results, and although the ship reached an altitude of 400 meters, it crashed. Schwarz did not live to see his airship fly. Shortly before his death he received news that his airship was ready to be filled with gas. On 13 January 1897 he collapsed in Vienna, and died minutes later from heart failure, aged 44.
