Battle of Roncevaux Pass, Iberian Peninsula, August 15, 778, (1852). The battle, fought between the Vascones (ie Basques) and the army of Charlemagne led by Roldán (or Roland), took place in the Pass of Roncevaux, or Roncevaux gorge, in the Navarran Pyrenees.
