Death of Queen Mercedes of Orléans, Madrid, Spain, 1878. Entrance of the public into the Royal Palace through the door of the Cáceres Staircase to pay respects as the Queen lies in state. Mercedes of Orléans (1860-1878) died aged just 18, shortly after her wedding to King Alphonso XII, as a result of typhoid fever. From " La Ilustración Española y Americana", 1878.
