Marriage of King Alfonso XII to Infanta Mercedes of Orléans, Madrid, January 1878, (1878). Royal celebrations to mark the marriage of Alfonso XII (1857-1885) to Mercedes of Orléans (1860-1878), celebrated on January 23, 1878. Comparsas from the provinces performing dances from their homeland in the Armería Square, in the presence of the King and Queen, on the afternoon of January 27th. Mercedes died aged just 18, shortly after her wedding, as a result of typhoid fever. From "La Ilustración Española y Americana", 1878.
