Still Life with Flowers and a Parrot, second half of 19th century. Additional Info: A terracotta vase filled with a variety of flowers, both large (roses, sunflowers, crown imperials) and small (blue forget-me-nots), stands on a stone pedestal, on which a parrot is sitting, with metal vessels and fruit scattered on the ground nearby. A section of a tree is visible on the left. A regularly composed garden extends in the background, and the entire composition is enclosed with a line of trees. The intense colours, the juxtaposition of the architectural elements with the terracotta vase and the generically depicted flowers are characteristic of Italian art at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The talent of the painter, whose work exudes a certain naïve charm, cannot equal the best Italian flower painters of the time.
