Portrait of Kornel Ujejski, 1868. Ujejski was one of the last adherents of romantic literature. Grabowski presents the poet facing to the right, sideways to the viewer. The profile reveals a thin face with blue eyes and a straight nose graced by a moustache and beard in the Spanish style. His light-brown hair is curled in ringlets, parted and combed back to reveal a protruding forehead. The model is dressed in a black frock coat and vest, with a white shirt and black tie. The only adornment on his clothing is the pearl pin in his tie. The severe and peaceful expression of the model corresponds with his refined profile. The oval-shaped portrait is characterised by a dark, narrow range of colours, predominantly blacks, browns and olive greens. Aleksandra Krypczyk-De Barra
