Portrait of an Unknown Woman, c1645. The coat of arms is surrounded by the initials: "ZNDN'. Below is an inscription that says that the woman died in 1645, at the age of 26 years. It has not yet been possible to identify this woman with any person with a known name and surname recorded in written sources. It is a typical official image, with the figure shown frontally; a decorative red curtain is used as the background. A dress from the French fashion, called alamoda [à la mode], richly decorated with lace on the cuffs and around the neck. A low bonnet is also curious, also trimmed with lace. The whole is completed by jewellery in the form of earrings, a gold chain and a string of pearls. It is undoubtedly a depiction of a noblewoman from an influential family. Tomasz Zaucha Tomasz Zaucha
