Portrait of Stanislaus Leszczynski (1677-1766), King of Poland, 2nd half of 18th century. Additional Info: Stanislaw Leszczynski became king during the Northern War, when, after the invasion of the Swedish army, the nobles going against the Saxon governments dethroned Augustus II and elected the Pole in 1704. Leszczynski's reign was brief. After the victory of the Russians at the Battle of Poltava (1709), Swedes left the territory of the Commonwealth, and Leszczynski went with them. After the death of Augustus II, Leszczynski appeared again in Poland and was re-elected king in 1733, but the Saxon supporters simultaneously elected Augustus III, the following armed intervention of the neighbouring states finally deprived Leszczynski of the opportunity to take the throne. He had to flee the country in a peasant disguise. The age of the model suggests that the portrait was made during the first reign of Leszczynski, that is in 1704-1709.
