Portrait of Michal Serwacy Wisniowiecki (1680-1744), Grand Hetman of Lithuania 1749-1756 Additional Info: The prince was born in 1680. Already as a twenty-year-old, he took part in a civil war that broke out in Lithuania between the supporters of the Radziwill family and a few other Lithuanian families, and the Sapieha family supporters. Wisniowiecki opposed the latter and was the commander at the Battle of Olkieniki when the Sapieha troops were defeated. From 1702 he was the Field Hetman of Lithuania, and a year later he received the grand Lithuanian mace. As a supporter of Leszczynski, he resigned from the function of the hetman, but later, in 1710-1713, he again became the Grand Hetman of Lithuania. From 1720, Wisniowiecki was the Great Chancellor of Lithuania, while from 1730 the Regimentarz [commander] of the Lithuanian army. In 1735 he became the voivode of Vilnius. He died in 1744 as the last member of the Wisniowiecki family. Tomasz Zaucha
