Portrait of Jan Klemens Branicki (1689-1771), Grand Hetman of the Crown, c1750. One of the most powerful magnates of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. He owned extensive estates, including several towns and over two hundred and fifty villages. His magnificent residence in Bialystok was widely admired and called the "Versailles of Podlasie." Branicki's third wife was Stanislaw August Poniatowski's sister, Izabela.
