Hetman Jan Zamoyski held high offices of the Grand Chancellor of the Crown and Grand Hetman of the Crown he was one of the most prominent politicians during the elections of the first electoral king, Henry of Valois, then he became a close associate of Stefan Batory [Stephen Báthory], and after his death he defeated the expedition of the Habsburg army, who aspired to the Polish crown. Zamoyski also paved the way for the throne to Sigismund III Vasa. He was also a great humanist and the founder of the Renaissance city of Zamosc. Tomasz Zaucha
