In Front of the Porch, between 1885-1890. The painting depicts a couple saying farewell standing in front of the porch of a small manor house or inn. The young woman, wrapped in a shawl, faces a man wearing a sheepskin coat, whose gesture of farewell is emphasised by his outspread arms. In the foreground is a two-horse coach driven by a coachman with a whip in his hand. On the porch, a stooped older man leans over the railing. Enclosed in a tight, close frame and sketchily developed, the composition was never finished by the artist. The colour scheme is dominated by brown, beige, grey and dark blue.
