The Defeat of Sir Andrew Barton, 1511, (1887). Sir Andrew Barton (c1466 -1511) gained notoriety as a privateer. Barton was supposedly shot and killed by an English archer during a fierce battle with Sir Edward Howard and his brother Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk, off Kent at the Downs.
