The Defeat of Sir Andrew Barton, 1511, (1887). Sir Andrew Barton (c1466 -1511) gained notoriety as a privateer. Barton was supposedly shot and killed by an English archer during a fierce battle with Sir Edward Howard and his brother Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk, off Kent at the Downs. Barton's ship is on the right. Page 313 of "The Sea: its stirring story of adventure, peril & heroism" by Frederick Whymper, [1887].
