Arrival in England of Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, with his new bride, Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia. 'The Recorder, the Town Clerk, and the members of the local committee had pushed to the front or entrance-end of the pier...the address was not read, but simply presented by the Recorder, who took advantage of the brief halt afforded to address a few words of welcome to their Royal Highnesses, which the Duke graciously acknowledged'.
