Water from the River Seine at Marly, 1899. Eau de Seine de Marly. The Machine de Marly, also known as the Marly Machine or the Machine of Marly, was a large hydraulic system in Yvelines, France, built in 1684 to pump water from the river Seine and deliver it to the Palace of Versailles. Page 65 of "Historique de la création de la ville, du château et du parc de Versailles, etc [With plates.]" (History of the creation of the city, the castle and the park of Versailles).
