'The Ministers and their cronies off to Botany Bay, and the Dorchester men returning', 1834-1835. 'These unfortunate Dorchester Men had been most unfairly dealt with. Who, he would ask, should really be in their places at this moment. Those persons who had used them for their own purposes...He thought that Earl Grey, Lord Brougham, the Noble Lord the Paymaster of the F[?], and the Right Hon. the Secretary for the Colonies, should be on board the [prison] Hulks in place of these unfortunate Men. Fergus O'Connor in the House, April 16th, 1834'. Politicians in tears being transported to Australia; at the bow is a flag reading 'FOR BOTANY BAY'. The two oarsmen guide the boat towards a ship. Another boat contains the six Tolpuddle Martyrs. Lord Chancellor Brougham has money-bags marked 'PENNY' and 'MAGAZINE', and holds a rolled-up paper reading 'CHEAP LAW'. Brougham is being comforted by Lord Melbourne. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Viscount Althorp, has a sack bearing the word 'BUDGET'. The Duke of Wellington declaims 'Never mind M-lb-n, we no doubt can get places among the Cannibals at Bottomhouse Bay. An Irishman and a Scotsman look on, while John Bull addresses the politicians.
