Transcript of the Assize of Northampton, 1176. The legal reforms of Henry II's reign were of fundamental importance in English constitutional development. Their texts are known only from copies in chronicles such as that of Henry's clerks. This is part of Roger of Hoveden's transcript of one of Henry's major enactments, the Assize of Northampton of 1176, full details of which are given only in Roger's various writings.
