A man seated on a throne holding a book, late12th-early 13th century. From a manuscript by the Scottish mathematician and scholar Michael Scot (1175 -c1232) nicknamed The Magician. Scot wrote many books on such subjects as necromancy, alchemy and divination. Legend says that he was skilled in wizardry and occult experiences. He was attached to the court of Emperor Frederick II.
