The lily and Saturn, 13th century. Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius in classical astrology, hence the goat and water carrier depicted with him. Saturn also governs old age and infirmity, therefore he is depicted as an old man leaning on a crutch. He also holds a sickle, which is perhaps a reference to death and the grim reaper. From a printed edition of "Naturalia" by Albertus Magnus, showing plants which embodied planetary influences.
