Lord John Manners, 7th Duke of Rutland, 1878. Manners was also a Conservative MP for Newark. He opposed the repeal of the Corn Laws, was a defender of the Established Church and a supporter of the agricultural interest. He was the author of "England's Trust, and other Poems", (1841), "A Plea for National Holy-days", (1843), "Notes of an Irish Tour", (1849), "A Cruise in Scotch Waters" and "English Ballads, and other Poems", (1850).
