Irish harp player and text, after c1170. A page of illustrated text from the "Topography of Ireland" by Gerald of Wales, a work describing legends and curiosities. Gerald was a scholar and traveller, visiting the pope in Rome three times. He was one of the most lively and entertaining medieval Latin writers. The illustrations from the manuscript are perhaps derived from drawings by Gerald himself.
