King William I (the Conqueror) receives the allegiance of his nephew Alain le Roux, Earl of Brittany, and grants him a charter of the Honor of Richmond [co. Yorks.] William sits on his throne wearing full armour and his coat of arms depicting lions. The Count kneels to offer his loyalty. Other knights in armour stand behind. With a panel of Latin text.
