Sir Humphrey [sic] Davy, the Inventor of the Safety Lamp, c1875-c1878. British chemist Humphry Davy (1778-1829) is known for isolating, by using electricity, several elements for the first time. His Davy lamp, a safety lamp for miners, helped prevent fatal explosions in coalmines.
