Mohawk Minstrels from the Royal Agricultural Hall, late 19th century. 'Prof. Bald(head)win or A Drop Too Much from the Clouds...Notice - Grand Irish Night...Grand Operatic Night...New Songs; New Jokes; New Ballads'. The 'Mohawk Minstrels' performed at the Royal Agricultural Hall continuously from 1876 to 1900. Minstrel shows were a racist form of entertainment popular in the USA and the UK during the 18th and 19th centuries. Performers - often white people in blackface - depicted negative stereotypes of African Americans. Poster advertising performances at the Elephant & Castle Theatre in south-east London.
