Chamber of Horrors, late 19th century. 'The Panopticum is a Museum where you find the Art of the Sculptor incarnate giving to the workmanship of the figures an appearance of living reality. The Ceroplasty (ie waxwork) figures have the appearance and countenance of living pictures. The Second Gallery represents The Awful Tortures of the Inquisition, with the Authentic Instruments of that Dreadful Institution.
