'The Gunpowder Plot', 1886. Guy Fawkes Interrogated by James I and his Council in the King's Red-Chamber, Whitehall. Fawkes (1570-1606) was an English conspirator who attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament on November 5th 1605 during the State Opening of Parliament by James I. The plot was foiled after a tip-off and Fawkes was arrested by guards after a search of the cellars. Guy Fawkes and the other conspirators were executed for treason in 1606. After J.M.L.Ralston.
