"General Tom Thumb's Carriage", 1844. The carriage was constructed by Mr S. Beaton of Denmark Street for Charles Sherwood Stratton, better known by his stage name General Tom Thumb. The body of the chariot was 'twenty inches high, and eleven inches wide'. Stratton (1838-1883) was an American with dwarfism who achieved great fame as a performer under circus pioneer P. T. Barnum.
