Bootham Bar, York, 1972. A view of Bootham Bar with the towers on the west front of York Minster beyond, seen from the west in Exhibition Square with the pond and fountain in the foreground. Bootham Bar has stonework dating to the 11th century. It was named in the 12th century as barram de Bootham, meaning bar at the booths, after the nearby market booths.
