Born at Riga, 1824; educated at Wiesbaden and Heidelberg. Is senior partner Messrs. G. Armitstead and Co., London and Dundee. Married daughter of Mr. E Baxter, Kincaldrum. A Liberal; sat for Dundee 1868 to 1873'. From "Illustrated London News", 1880.
