'Son of late Mr. John Chatfield Tyler, born 1827; educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich; held commission in Royal Engineers. Appointed Chief Inspector of Railways for Board of Trade; has been Chairman of several Railway Companies. Married daughter of General Sir C. Pasley'. Tyler was a pioneering British engineer and politician, who contributed to the Great Exhibition of 1851 and whose collections helped found the Science Museum in South Kensington, London.
