The Opening of Parliament: the Chancellor of the Exchequer speaking in the House of Commons, 1880. Engraving 'from the picture by Mr. Wyllie...[showing] something of the interior of the House of Commons, and appearance of its honourable and right honourable members when engaged in Parliamentary business. In the Illustration the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Northcote, is seen in the attitude usually assumed by this right honourable gentleman when addressing the House, of which he is considered at present the leader, by virtue of his acknowledged headship of the Ministerial party in the Commons'.
