One of the most important buildings preserved from Granada's Nasrid period, originally al-Funduq al-Jadida, it has had many uses throughout its history. Constructed in the 14th century in the middle of the commercial area. After 1531 it was called Corral del Carbon because of its use as storage for coal. It later became a theatrical courtyard (a corral de comedias). From the 17th century onwards it was converted into small apartments with a central courtyard. At present it is used as a cultural centre.
