The Prince of Wales at Montreal - Arch at the head of M'Gill Street, 1860. The future King Edward VII visits North America. 'The Prince of Wales landed at Montreal on Saturday morning, the 25th August, and was received with the most enthusiastic demonstrations of welcome by about 60,000 people. The occasion was probably the most striking ever witnessed in Canada. The streets were beautifully decorated - there being some tastefully-constructed arches; and the procession which accompanied his Royal Highness from the wharf after the presentation of an address from the Mayor embodied all the civic societies, the clergy, the fire brigade, the regular military, and the volunteers, not only of the city, but of distant places'.
