Professor Faraday lecturing at the Royal Institution, before H.R.H. Prince Albert, the Prince of Wales, and Prince Alfred - from a sketch by Alexander Blaikley, 1856. '...the "Christmas Lectures", given at the Institution yearly, by Professor Faraday...are specially adapted to a juvenile auditory; the subject of the course lately completed was the Distinctive Properties of the Common Metals. Each of these lectures was honoured by the presence of their Royal Highnesses...it was truly interesting to witness the profound attention with which the illustrious children received their earliest scientific impressions...from such a teacher...the Prince of Wales is seated on the right hand of Prince Albert, and Prince Alfred on his left...a gratifying evidence of the care bestowed upon the early education of the Royal family, in thus introducing them to the culture of the higher branches of knowledge'. From "Illustrated London News", 1856.
